The author says that “writing for the mass media is one of the most important jobs in our society.” Do you agree or disagree? Why?
I would have to agree with the author’s statement. I think that writing for the mass media is the most important job because so many people are relying on the information provided by those writers. Everyday millions of people rely on the people who write the stories for the news such as CNN, the newspaper such as The New York Times, and even news magazines such as Newsweek and Time. Without the people who work in the mass media fields our everyday life would be a lot more difficult. I find that even the weatherman’s job in mass media is very important. If I didn’t know the weather forecast for the day or the week it would be pretty difficult to know what to wear that day. We depend so much on the media to be able to give us information at any second. We expect that if we search for an article on a certain topic that it’s there when we need it. Doing research would be so difficult if we couldn’t just spontaneously do a search and find the information we are looking for. I think the majority of people who own computers, iPod Touches, I-Phones, and other devices capable of internet connection expect that they can always use the internet and goggle to help with research. The people who work in mass media make it so information we need is available 24/7 and 365 days a year. I think our generation takes for granted how much information is really provided for us. Without the newspapers, the internet, and the news society would be a lot different.
